49 Nell'ambito del progetto Stil Novo presentiamo un'opportunità di conoscenza della cultura Inuit e del significato della pratica del Katajjaq con Cynthia Pitsiulak e CharlotteQamaniq della band Silla. Due donne usano la loro voce, gola e respiro per creare suoni che non hanno testi. Katajjaq interpreta i suoni dell'ambiente naturale artico e degli animali, oltre a creare ninne nanne, storie e canzoni da competizione. As part of the project Stil Novo we present an opportunity of knowledge of Inuit Culture and the meaning of the practice of Katajjaq with Cynthia Pitsiulak and CharlotteQamaniq of the band Silla. Two women use their voice, throat, and breath to create sounds that have no lyrics. Katajjaq interprets sounds of the natural Arctic environment and animals, as well as creating lullabies, stories, and competition songs. Songs can be sung to influence the spirits of animals and the Sila, the weather and environment; they are stories of Inuit ancestors. Silla is a singing group blending divergent styles of traditional and contemporary katajjaq (Inuit throat singing) across a wide range of genres. The name Silla is derived from the Inuktitut word 'Sila', its definition encompassing concepts of weather, the land, the spirit of the atmosphere, cunning, and intelligence. The name pays homage to the rich musical texture and nuance throat singing creates, and to the powerful spirituality and traditions that have kept it alive through both historical and modern threats posed by colonialism.
